Chris + Nikki
All the details from the couple!
How did you all meet?
We first met in College Park at the University of Maryland (Go Terps!), but were just friends at the time. Our relationship started a few years later from what was supposed to be a boys weekend for Chris and girls weekend for Nikki in Dewey Beach. One night after a long day of Dewey Beach Memorial Day activities, we made our way out to a bayside pier and proceeded to chat the night away until the sun rose. It was at this point, that both of us saw each other as more than just friends.
Our relationship started out semi-long distance as every weekend the two of us would spend time together at either Nikki’s place in DC or Chris’ place in Baltimore. After two years of back and forth, we decided to give up the long distance trek and settle into an apartment together in Baltimore. Soon after moving in, we thought it would be a great idea to test our puppy parenting skills and went to pick up our adorable Vizsla, Ella. Chris knew Ms. Ella Mae would have to be present whenever he got around to proposing. On September 19, 2015, during a weekend at the beach, Chris desperately tried to wake Nikki and Ella for a sunrise walk on the beach in Dewey. Neither Nikki or Ella are what you would call morning people, so Chris was fighting an uphill battle (if only Nikki knew!). Finally, Chris was able to get them out from under the covers and rushed them to the car, with little time to spare. They pulled up to the beach just in time for sunrise, he hurried them to the beach, got down on one knee and with a few words and a “teary” yes from Nikki, the deal was sealed.
What inspired you the most when designing your wedding day?
The venue inspired our wedding design. Chris and I fell in love with Shadow Creek when we visited on a rainy October day and still found the venue to be absolutely perfect. The rustic vibes of the barn mixed with the vintage furniture inspired our décor. We loved the green landscape which inspired our bridesmaid dresses and floral arrangements. The vintage furniture inspired us to choose floral designed china plates.
What made you decide to have your wedding at Shadow Creek?
There are so many reasons why we chose a wedding at Shadow Creek. Obviously, the landscape is breathtaking but the charming equestrian barn was the perfect fit for us. Plus we had a ton of questions on our first visit which Lori patiently sat with us through 🙂
What was your favorite part of the day?
From Nikki: My favorite part of the day was turning the corner of the patio to walk down the aisle, holding onto my father’s arm, surrounded by the most loving friends and family with Chris looking at me with the biggest smile on his face.
From Chris: Obviously, my favorite part of the day was seeing Nikki walk down the aisle and having all of our hard work and come to fruition. I would have to say outside of that moment, that I loved having Gus greet our guests and having everyone enjoy the scenery of the front porch and walkway during cocktail hour.
What advice do you have for other couples getting married?
Enjoy the day because it goes by incredibly fast in the blink of an eye and don’t sweat the small stuff!
