Nick + Maureen
From the Bride…
How did you all meet?
Nick and I met over the magic of ‘Mug Night’ at Whitlows in Arlington. Thought we didn’t hit it off at first, a chance encounter at another bar the very next night brought us together a second time and we have been a couple ever since.
What inspired you the most when designing your wedding day?
I was most inspired by various wedding blogs, Pinterest, etc. But I really wanted to let the beauty of the venue shine through, without being weighed down by too many bold colors, etc. That’s one of the great things about Shadow Creek – you don’t have to do much to make it beautiful.
What made you decide to have your wedding at Shadow Creek?
I loved the rustic setting and the beauty of Purcellville and surrounding areas. Nick and I have spent a great deal of time visiting the various wineries so we knew that it would be an ideal location for our wedding. I liked that Shadow Creek allowed us to host our ceremony and reception in one space, making things simpler for our guests. It was also important to me to have accessible bathrooms, ample parking, and a comfortable temperature — which are some things many barns can’t offer.
What was your favorite part of the day?
My favorite part of our day was our fist look photo shoot. My nerves were wracked over the weather but seeing Nick and taking photos, while listening to the pitter patter of rain drops on the portico roof above us instantly calmed me and reminded me of why we were truly there. I instantly felt calmer and ready to experience the day.
What advice do you have for other couples getting married?
To not dwell in the stress of planning as much as possible and when the day comes to take a moment and look at your partner, pause and truly absorb everything that is going on and all the people there for you. You can’t make everyone happy — it’s most important at the end of the day that you two are happy and the rest will follow. Things will go wrong. People won’t be able to come at the last minute or someone might try to make your day about them, but it is one day that is special and is about you and your partner and nothing can take away from that.
