We are headed full steam ahead into engagement season! The most exciting time of year as proposals are planned, rings are purchased, and champagne is poured. The month of December holds six of the top 10 days of the year for getting engaged. While November is not as popular for engagements, it’s certainly a month where family and friends tend to spend a lot of time together, so proposals are bound to happen. As we head into this exciting time, we thought it might be helpful to provide our readers with some tips when it comes to planning your perfect Northern Virginia wedding.

Tip 1: Create a ballpark guest count before venue shopping

You might not love your crazy aunt, but she may still need to be invited to your wedding. The number of guests you will need to accommodate will ultimately impact not only your budget but your venue choices as well. Each venue has a maximum capacity, so before you visit and fall in love with your dream location, make sure you know how many people you have to invite to keep the peace. Tip 2: Find a venue that gives you peace-of-mind

It can pour rain on your wedding day, and if you are dreaming of a winter wedding, keep in mind that it can snow. Make sure you book a venue that lets you sleep at night knowing it can rain, snow, or be extremely hot on your wedding day.

Tip 3: Hire vendors who YOU like

Planning a wedding can often take up to a year. There are many talented vendors, from planners to florists, to photographers and caterers. Word of mouth and referrals are a great way to find amazing people to bring your vision to life but don’t be afraid to do some research yourself. Talk to people before you book them, make sure you feel they understand your vision, and don’t be afraid to meet lots of vendors before making a decision. You will be working together for a long time, so you want to make sure you are comfortable.

While many people are choosing to elope, keep their weddings small, or opt for a destination, many are also planning large weddings and taking the opportunity to celebrate with lots of friends and family. Typically, we see weddings ranging in size from 130 to 300 guests.
